Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

In spite of questionable reliability of the JGC, mine has performed very well. My only complaints: on very hot days, the air conditioner does not seem to keep the interior as cool as other vehicles that I have owned (i.e. Toyota 4-Runner). Also the vehicle is louder than previously owned vehicles. It is, however, much more powerful and comfortable than any other SUV that I know of in its class AND I can pull my 25 foot trailer in the Colorado Rocie Mountains without any problem!

  • Drivin a Jeep and Lovin It - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Just bought a 2001 Grand Cherokee 60th Anniversary Ed. and absolutely love it. Only one problem. Brakes. Had rotors and pads replaced at 37,000. Ride comfort is superb in front seats and rear. Controls are easy to figure out and easy to use. Love the radio controls on the wheel. Road noise is moderate and has a nice hum. Offroad capabilities are amazing for a lux ute.

  • Second Jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We currently traded in our 1996 Limited Cherokee and purchased the 2004 special addition. Off the lot it is a wonderful vehicle very quite and plenty of power. The in line 6 has been around for a long time and jeep has really had good success with it. Don’t change a thing. Our limited had more options than the special addition but we never used all of them any way this was perfect fit for us. Leather, sunroof, CD, steering wheel controls for radio and cruise lade out Perfect!! And the jeep is the best looking vehicle in its class.

  • Not as happy as i should be - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This was my first new car and second Jeep. I owned a 97 Wrangler with 132,000 miles on it before I bought this one. I have to say the new Grand Cherokee is in my opinion the best looking midsize suv on the market now. The ride is very smooth in this suv and highway driving is a pleasure. I had a chance to take it offroad once on the beach and was so impressed by it. It seemed to go through the sand even better than my Wrangler. I thought that by having AWD it wouldnt be as good but I was wrong. Now for the bad. The 3.7 v6 seems to run very rough and loud all the time. My steering wheel actually shakes at idle. It runs rougher than my old Jeep. Transmission shifts at the wrong time and gas mileage stinks.

  • Never buying a Jeep again. - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I remember when Jeeps were reliable. Now they are not built the way they use to be. I bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I drove it 48,000 miles and in that time I have gone through 3 fuel pumps, 2 seats, 1 steering column, 2 window motor/modulators. Now I traded and got a 2003 Jeep. Guess where it is, it is in the shop. Great place for a new Jeep.

  • 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland-Pricey Lemon! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought an 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland in 2005 w.a mere 22,000 miles on the odometer. Being loaded, this SUV cost $43,000+. I immediately learnt that both axle seals, & both rear shocks, were leaking. At 36,200 miles (200 miles out of the "warranty"), all "Hell" broke loose. The starter failed, the factory CD player died, power windows & door locks ceased to function (Ive had this problem repaired 3+ times already), no Jeep dealership would help out even though this Jeep was only 200 miles out of "warranty", thepass. side rocker panel & frnt fender are rotting out, transmission started slipping at 117,000 miles. A grossly overpriced LEMON, & my LAST Jeep. Honda Pilot here I come!

  • Good Mid-Size SUV - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive had my Jeep 18 months now and after initially being in the shop 6 times for transmission problems, the recall finally came out and the problem was fixed. I put this down to teething problems with a new model. Since then, this SUV has been fine as a family vehicle. Great ride and handling for an SUV. Interior a little dull - Jeep could have used better grade plastics on the trim. Overall, this SUV does the job and looks good.

  • So Far ...We love it! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was against buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee because of their poor maintenance records but my wife wanted one because of her experience in the past. Drove everything else on the market (and I mean EVERTHING else) trying to talk her out of it...but the ride in this car blew ME away! We are going on two years and almost 30K with no problems...none! Im a believer!

Love my JGCL. 2500 trouble-free miles. Solid and functional design, no sqeaks or rattles. Quarda-drive is excellent in snow and on ice.
